Lighting: 2x 2K Tungsten Arri Fresnal Spots in the second story apartment shooting out the windows about 10ft apart w/ Bounce card for fill to Camera left. About a 2stop ratio difference I believe it was f/4 on their backs and f/2 w/fill for their faces.

Earlier this year I was a finalist in the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation: Visual Arts Competition and was one of 5 photography finalist. They showcased our work and held the judging in the beautiful Union League Club of Chicago. Recently they asked me for my work to be a part of the CAF Review, which is showcases artwork and works of creative writing from the Union League Civic Arts Foundation: Arts Competitions. It turned out pretty cool, I was really excited to see my photos on page 8 and 9 the work itself is from my Close: In Logan Square Project which can be seen here.

from my ongoing project: The Avignone's

So Far this semester has been full of many great realizations about my work, which I thank in part so far to my amazing professors this semester Tim Long, Kelli Connell and Paul D'Amato. I have some interesting ideas for the project which I hope will end up as a bound book at the end of the year for Maninfest. So looks like I gotta start hitting the inDesign tutorials online. I also am looking to apply for the Albert P. Weisman Award proposing to make a professionally bound artist book on my work about my family. If I received the award it would result in a Gallery exhibition next year also they would reimburse me half of my cost in making the project. But for now I shall just contemplate thoughts, shoot, edit, print and repeat.

But my eyes are on the horizon

This body of work is simply about people in their living spaces and how they relate back to the sitters life and personality. All of these portraits were made on May 8th, 2010 between the times of 4pm and 10:00pm all around Chicago from Chinatown to Albany Park at five different locations.

This was made for my Studio 2 final at Columbia College Chicago, I tried to push myself as to organize and schedule people to shoot at their places of living, and had to execute it all in a timely fashion, in order to replicate the demands of the real world within the industry which cannot wait.

Recently in my Studio 2 class at Columbia, we were given the assignment Layout to Finish. Where my professor gave us all a generic layout but with the clients product being Oscar Mayer Bologna. I have not done very much commercial work in the past, so it was a small challenge to have everything culminate together, from the space, food, lighting, and graphic design. But I'm pretty happy with the results thanks to help from Jen. So check out what they gave me below and what I delivered back.

Efterklang and Volcano! @ Lincoln Hall, Chicago 3.8.2010

Another late night show in the wonderland that was Chicago last Monday night, for fog encompassed most of the city. We found ourselves at Lincoln Hall, with Chicago's own Volcano! opening up the night with some rather decent experimental, indie rock. They actually surprised me with their catchy guitar riffs, off beats, and weird synth which culminated into some rather good tunes. And finally Efterklang who's on tour promoting their new album Magic Chairs, I have to say this band is just one of those bands you need to see live to fully appreciate them in all of their glory. They uzze energy and excitement, their lead singer Mads Brauer was just a delight on stage, giving not one but about three toast of his wine glass to the crowd throughout the night. Overall I'd have to say this was a great way to spend a Monday night with a little local and Denmark flavor in the format of sound waves. And now enjoy some visuals by me.

I would like for this year long project to not be on a certain theme or issue, but more as an outlet for myself as an photographer. David Bazan and Say Hi: Lincoln Hall, 10.24.2009

On a mild October night I found myself waiting in a rather long line to get into the brand new Lincoln Hall, for the David Bazan and Say Hi concert. As we entered the beautiful new venue on Lincoln Avenue I noticed how vast it was in comparison to its exterior, which to me seemed comparable to the Metro on the inside. Although we waited an extra thirty minutes for Say Hi to open up the set, to me it only increased the anticipation for the night ahead. The Washington trio thoroughly warmed up the crowd with some indie pop/ low fi rock tunes along with some bright smiles and entertaining jokes. As Say Hi finished up their set their lead singer Eric Elbogen warned us of “Extreme bearded Sexiness,” which was refereeing to David Bazan and to a couple of his new touring mates. As Mr. Bazan and friends entered the stage they sure did not disappoint at least in the beard aspect, they opened up the set with “Hard to Be” which is the opening track on his newest LP “Curse your Branches,” and boy did they blow my mind away. After the many years of seeing David Bazan solo it was a real treat to see him play with a full band of extremely talented musicians, two of which where members of Say Hi. As the night went on one could say David looked “comfortable” or even “happy” up there on stage. He played many tracks from his latest LP but also a few Pedro the Lion and Headphones jams as well. Over all I have to say in my opinion, after seeing him 6 times solo in the past I feel now I am spoiled with a full band backing him up. And I would have to conclude his performance on that mild October night was the best yet I have come to see from him.

Hope these photos help justify how amazing the show was.

1. I was a Mechanical Engineering Major at ONU.
2. Met kid named Tyler, he liked sk8ing, metal, and photography sort of.
3. He convinced me to take a digital photo class at ONU.
4. I introduce him to my good friend Kass.

That was 3 years ago.

5. Now I'm a professional photographer living in Chicago, and go to Columbia College Chicago for my BFA in Photography.
6. And Yesterday I just photographed Tyler and Kass's wedding on June 6, 2009.

Thanks to Tyler I'm here today loving what I do. And I guess thanks to me they have the love of their lives.

New Beginings and Ongoing Work

So with the finish of yet another amazing semester at Columbia, I've taken away many new things not only skills technically, but I feel more aware and intentional in my personal work. Within the next week or so one of my other projects will up, so be sure to check back.

This slide show below is just the beginning of a body of work, that I have been working on this past semester. It was an introspect of Generation "Y" but is currently evolving with the passing of time.
